Sample question and detailed solution
A bag contains 3 red balls and 2 blue balls. One ball is chosen at random. What is the probability that it is blue?
Show answer and explanation
Answer: 2/5
There are 3 + 2 = 5 balls in total and 2 are blue. Each ball is equally likely to be selected, so the probability is 2/5. Do not answer 1/2 merely because there are two colors: count equally likely balls, not color categories.
